Here is a question from Odforce.net that I’m sure most of us have asked at some point. Tutorials that do specific effects are great but at some point you will want to know the “whys” and learn more about Houdini under the hood.
What I’d love to see more, as somebody who switched from another app (not a “newbie”)… is an in depth explanation of how Houdini works “under the hood”. There’s bits and pieces everywhere… but most Tutorials center around an effect they want to achieve.
This was posted by @danylyon over at the Odforce.net forums on 25 Feb 2013 and was given a very informative answer by @oldschool or better know as Jeff Wagner from Side Effects. Thanks to @JonathanGranskg for the confirmation that oldschool was indeed Mr. Wagner.
I’m posting it as a #QuickTip because I think it’s an important link that any beginning Houdini user should read. Unfortunately, it was posted on a forum and usually these posts get lost in the abyss.
Do yourself a favor and read his answer. I often go back and reread it myself. Some of it may be over your head but it’s possible you walk away knowing a little something more about how Houdini works under the hood.
